Canada in WW2

The Dieppe Raid of August 19th, 1942 was an assault by Canada, Britain and United States on a German fortified fort in Dieppe, France. Consisting primarily of Canadian troops, the Allied forces began a full frontal attack on a German fortified city. Many questioned the combat tactic of this battle yet the assault nevertheless, commenced. The plan soon proved to be incompetent as a total of 3369 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded in the short nine hours of battle. Many soldiers were captured while Canada experienced the most severe casualties amongst the Allies. In this battle, Canada learned the serious consequences of a miscalculated plan, loosing up to 1000 fighters. Although this battle was disastrous, Canadian troops gained experience that later benefited the success of D-Day.
